Northern Challenge #3 and Unlimited Street East

With Temperatures in the mid 90's and fuel prices being over $4 for the diesel drivers the Northern Challenge #3 was a HUGE success. The show car and vendor area was packed all day and being in southern virginia the southern hospitality was definitely there. The track personnel were some of the best that I have worked with in a very long time. Thank you Motor Mile Dragway.

After Qualifying was completed in the Unlimited Street class only 10 cars remained with only 2 of these cars running in the 6 second range, oddly enough these same two cars met in the final round. It was Gene Cook (2007 Champion) facing off against last years runner up Jerry Lewis. Both of these drivers spent the last year preparing for this single race hoping to meet in the final round yet again. Gene cook was out of the gates first and at the top end Jerry just squeezed by him running a 6.361 @ 115mph to Genes 6.417 @ 111mph. Congratulations to Jerry Lewis Racing and Cookers VeeDubs for their accomplishments in 2007 and 2008. Next Unlimited Street East event will be held at the North vs South Shootout at Rockingham Dragway on September 14th.

In the SEVWA Bracket Classes we had a first time winner in the Pro Class. Ryan Basinger took his first ever win at a Vw event. Congratulations Ryan. Bruce Ridgeway took the win over Corbitt Marshburn in the Super Pro Class and Colby Marshburn (son of Corbitt) defeated Rick Laws in the final of the sportsman class.
